Getting Ready to Sail: What It's Like to Cruise
Cruising is the most relaxing, fun-filled, and economic way to vacation that you will ever find. Something amazing happens when the ship draws away from the hustle and bustle of the embarkation port. As you make your way away from land, most of the worries, and stresses, and troubles of your life fade away. (You
might enjoy a big sigh.) They are replaced with days of exploring fabulous ports; being served wonderful food and drink; time to read, sleep, think, or just relax by the pool; entertainment to please the most discerning passengers; and a huge array of activities....truly something for everyone. The daily activities can include trivia contests, movies, karaoke, arts and crafts
classes, computer classes, wine tastings, ship tours, board games, bingo, dance classes, exercise and yoga classes, cooking demos, spa treatments...the list is endless. All are great ways to make memories with family and friends you travel with. And that's just what is available during the day!
At every meal, and in between, you will enjoy gourmet food with arrays of choices for everyone, even vegetarians or those on special diets. The food can all be customized for your tastes. Just ask the incredible wait staff. Then afterwards, enjoy Broadway-class variety shows, be they musicals, comedians, magic, even audience participation shows. The casino is open when you are at sea. Go watch even if you don't want to play. There are deck parties with all kinds of music as well as featured musicians in the bars and lounges. Add in various special nights (the Chocolate or Dessert Extravaganza comes to mind) and 24-hour room service, and your every wish can be fulfilled.
And when your day is done, you retire to your perfectly cleaned and straightened stateroom, generally with a towel animal to welcome you. Chocolates to sweeten the deal, and the "daily log" of the next day's activities are laid out on your bed. If you have a balcony, sitting out there and watching the stars, just chatting, is a cruise highlight. Your balcony is also the perfect venue for private sunset celebrations each
evening. Balconies are highly recommended!
In port you can do a shore excursion sponsored by the ship or one of my trusted partners, like Port Promotions (see the Shore Excursion tab on this site). You can ask me to arrange something special for you or your group, or you can just wander around the ports with guidebook in hand. Or you may not get off of the ship at all. You might decide to enjoy the ship and pool while everyone else is ashore. I do recommend an island tour or excursion if it is your first visit. These experiences are often what you remember years later, and are what make the cruise so special for many people. Sharing them with family and friends make them even more memorable. I can arrange group excursions if you wish.
Cruise Myths:
1.) Everyone is old. Celebrity has plenty of young cruisers and an extensive children's program for families! The childrens' Fun Zone on the Silhouette is expansive.
2.) There's nothing to do. See above! There are so many things to do that it is hard to choose.
3.) I'll get seasick. No, you won't. But let me know if this is a concern and I can choose particular stateroom locations and make other arrangements to help prevent any motion issues.
4.) There are too many people onboard. Celebrity has one of the highest "space ratios" in the industry. The ship is spacious and there are private nooks everywhere. This is also a medium-sized ship, not one of the "mega" ships.
5.) It's too expensive. Your costs per day vary depending on your onboard expenses and stateroom choices, but it usually runs $160-250 per person per day. This price includes your transportation to the most beautiful islands in the Caribbean, your accomodations, all of your meals (and exquisite meals at that), entertainment, and exemplary service. There is no other vacation that can compare to these per day costs.
